Foresty things

Happy May!

I went back to the nearby wildlife refuge to see how much it had greened up since I was there in March. I wasn’t very happy with most of my photos, but I’ll share a few of the okay ones here.

I don’t know what these are. I really don’t know much of anything in the way of wild plants, except which ones are cute.

Although, I do know this is a dandelion, not to be confused with the dandelions that are yellow and do not make your wishes come true. I don’t know why they are called the same thing or if they are the same thing at different stages or what. Maybe that’s an embarrassing confession.

This was my happy discovery of the day! I don’t think I’ve seen this wildflower before, but it was in a lot of swampy spots along the trail.

So cute!

Speaking of the trail: tada! It’s definitely different from last time I was there (see fifth picture on this entry for a comparison).

I like road/trail photos. I’m so cliche.

There wasn’t a lot of wildlife to photograph. I kept hearing stuff flying off as I got closer, but there’s enough greenery that it’s hard to see things. I think this is a Cinnamon Teal. Hm…wonder how it gets its name?

And here’s a Peppercorn White. Just kidding… I don’t know what this is. Anyone?

And this is a bird sitting in a tree.

The end.

I couldn't find your Peppercorn White in my Peterson's Guide, but I'll guess that it's a form of waterfowl. πŸ˜› The one below that looks to be a Yellow-Rumped Warbler, but I don't have enough angles to really confirm (plus difficult to determine size and/or call from a photo, as well). It clearly fits — by it's appearance — in the Warbler family, most likely, but whether it's Yellow-Rumped or not … well, maybe you saw it leaving? I enjoyed these photos! -R

I bet you're right about it being waterfowl!!

Yeah, I know it's a Yellow-Rumped Warbler but since I photograph that type of bird so much (always on my feeder) I figured it was redundant to explain it. πŸ˜› I guess here it wouldn't be, but you know.

    Thanks!

Yeah, aren't they cute? Weird that I've not seen them before (that I can recall).

Second picture down…yes, it's a dandelion in the “Let Me Spread My Little Seeds So They Can Populated Your Entire Yard With Weeds” stage.

Sounds like you are speaking from experience, perhaps?

Hey, I thought of you yesterday since we had pretty decent weather all afternoon, so I'm sure you were able to get your gardening done!

Yes, the experience is taking over my backyard at the moment.
